Organize your contacts into groups to communicate with everyone at the same time.

Organizing contacts by group in Shout lets you send the right message to the right people every time.

For example…

  • Organize an event and message all the attendees with details and reminders
  • Run a promotion to a VIP customer group and offer a discount or prize
  • Remind your team to submit a weekly report

How to Create a Group


From the Groups tab in the left side navigation:

  1. Click the New Group button at the top of the page
  2. Name your group

From the Groups tab in the bottom bar:

  1. Tap the black Plus sign (+)at the top of the screen
  2. Name your group

Add Contacts to a Group


From the Groups tab in the left side navigation

  1. Select a group
  2. Click the Add Contacts button at the top right of the page
  3. Select the contacts you want to add to the group, then scroll to the bottom and click Add Contacts.

You can also add a contacts to a Groups from their contact profile card by clicking Add Group. Remember: Bot actions can add and remove contacts from Groups, which you should take advantage of often when building out Bots.

How to Send a Message to a Group


Click the New button at the top of the screen and select Group Message. You can then choose the appropriate group, select the service to send with, and draft your message.

Alternatively, you can compose a message to your group by navigating to the Group screen and clicking the Message button to the left of the group name. Compose your message and hit send or schedule as you normally would.


Tap the plus icon (+) at the bottom of the screen, then tap New Group Message. Select the group you’d like to message.

Alternatively, tap the Group tab, select the group you’d like to message and tap Message Group. Use the composer to draft your message.

How to Remove Contacts from Groups

To remove someone from a group, open the group, click the three-dot menu next to the name you’d like to remove, and select Remove from Group

Bots can also remove people from a group with the “Remove from Group” action.
